IKEA continues its resell program by introducing the new furniture buy-back and resell program, offering customers vouchers in exchange for select used Ikea items. Sadly excluding the United States, (according to The New York Times), the offer will be available in the U.K., Australia, and Canada, and other 27 countries.

What’s great is that customers can receive a voucher for 30, 40, or up to 50 percent of their furniture’s original price in exchange, and to achieve this, they first have to obtain an estimate of their furniture’s resale value via their respective regional Ikea website before bringing the assembled item to a store to be assessed. Once returned, the used furniture will be refurbished as needed and later sold at a lower price point as a more affordable and sustainable option. Items eligible for resale include dressers, shelving units, tables, and chairs and stools without upholstery; notable exclusions include other upholstered items, electrical and kitchen products, textiles and outdoor furniture.

The buy-back and resell program will first launch in the U.K. on November 24 to coincide with Black Friday. “By making sustainable living more simple and accessible, Ikea hopes that the initiative will help its customers take a stand against excessive consumption this Black Friday and in the years to come,” reads a statement from the company reported by the BBC.
